Safe Food for Canadians Act (SFCA) and Product Safety and Preventive Control Plans (PCP)

As part of the Safe Foods for Canadian’s Act, manufacturers and processors of ingestible products require quality systems and a customized food safety plan called a Preventive Control Plan (PCP). The PCP includes documentation of product history and details such as ingredients and inputs including biological, chemical or physical hazards associated with the product and how it’s processed. The PCP, based on internationally recognized Codex Alimentarius standards, is required to mitigate potential hazard risks that may impact product safety and quality.

As experts in Codex Alimentarius as well as the SFCA, EAS reviews your documentation and assists in developing thoughtful, proactive strategies to ensure a thorough PCP is developed in accordance with applicable laws.

Facility & Product Audits

Internal audits and preparation for audits by regulatory bodies requires knowledgeable and experienced assistance. EAS consultants can assist with audits by Health Canada, US FDA or any other regulatory body. We can also support annual GMP self-inspections and provide gap analyses and improvement plans for many of the world’s regulatory agencies.

Manufacturers of products that are regulated under the Safe Foods for Canadian Act and the FDA’s Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act are subject to facility inspections and penalties for non-compliance with GMPs and other requirements.

Labeling & Claims Reviews

Each country has unique requirements for product labeling and claims statements. These requirements affect not only how products can be marketed in their home country, but whether they can legally be exported. EAS reviews labeling formats and content, product formulations, and provides advice on how claims will impact product classification.
